How to Grow Your Business in a Crisis

There are 3 things I focused on during The Great Recession that I want to go through with you - no matter where you are in the journey. 

1. Know Your Economic Model

How much do you pay your broker? How much do you pay the agents on your team? What is the total GCI from your team? Take away broker and agent pay from total GCI and what’s remaining is your real revenue. Real Revenue (or Gross Margin as it’s often called) has to be more than 60%. 65-75% is ideal. The good news about a shift is that agents can’t find their way, and they’ll open their eyes to the value of a well-run real estate team.

2. Value-Based Commission Splits

Regardless of if you’re just starting a team - if you’re a top producing agent and you’re thinking of bringing an administrator on, now is the time to do it. This is business owner thinking, not real estate agent thinking. If you provide true value as the team leader, you have the lead gen and the administrators,  you can make the gross margin targets work - it’s just a mindset shift away from what the industry tells us about splits and agent compensation structures. 

3. Team Structure & Cadence

This is the awesome opportunity that’s coming up right now - if you’re going to start a team like I did during rough times back in 2008 and 2009, and take advantage of this market, you have to establish a structure and cadence for yourself before bringing anyone into your world. “I do it, we do it, they do it.” - that’s the attitude we need. 

If you are able to shift your marketing to respond to what’s going on in the world, you’ll crush your competition just like I did in the last recession. Don’t ignore this opportunity!
