Scaling Up Your Business in the Luxury Homes and Investments Market w/Jared Chamberlain

Building and running a successful real estate brokerage is hard enough, and setting our sights can feel like an added challenge. How can we achieve our goals, and why is it important to keep track of our numbers and work routine? How do we recover from a bad hire? Is working our sphere enough to make sales? In this episode, Jared Chamberlain talks about how he and his wife built a business from scratch, and the challenges that appeared along the way.

Success is liking who you are and liking how you do it. -Jared Chamberlain

3 Things We Learned From This Episode

  • Tracking Our Numbers Will Tell Us Why We Aren’t Reaching Our Goals (04:00-06:00) When we aren’t achieving what we want, it’s important to look at our numbers and see what worked for us in the past and what we aren’t doing properly in the present. The issues usually lie in the small things we tend to get lazy with. Once we find the power to deal with the pressure and the stress, it’s much easier to be analytical and rational about that tweaks we need to make.
  • How to Recover From a Bad Hire (07:00-11:00) One bad hire can slow down our business, but this is to be expected, especially in the beginning. What’s important is to cut ties with our bad decisions. We need to remove the people who damage our team culture and business, and create a system to help us out in the hiring process. For example, personality tests can be quite good at figuring out if a candidate is a good fit for the role that we’re advertising.
  • Don’t rely on only your sphere to generate leads  (12:00-13:00) We can’t scale up a real estate business only by working our sphere. The conversion rates might be higher when we work with people who already know us and share our work ethic, but a sphere is limited. Websites that generate leads are a must for any business that wants to expand.

We have to take the time to list out what roles are required for the business we created to run smoothly. This will set the foundation for the hiring process and make it easier for us to see where we fit into the system and what role we should take on. A team can’t thrive unless we push them in the right direction and make sure each role is filled by the right person.
